Artwork Guidelines

To achieve the highest quality result, high quality artwork is required. Below are guidelines, which will help you provide acceptable electronic files.

The Best Engraving Artwork Specs:

  • VECTOR Format:  Black & White Line Art with Outlines/Curves (No High Detail Color Images, Grayscale and/or Halftones/Shading/Shadowing)**
    * Must be saved as PC file formats (EPS, AI, PDF, CDR)**
    * AI, EPS & PDF files should be Adobe Illustrator CS4 or Lower**
    * CDR files should be CorelDraw X3 or lower**
    * Convert all fonts to outlines/curves before sending.
  • If VECTOR format is not available:  High Resolution (200 or 300 dpi) Bitmap/Raster file formats such as, JPG, TIFF, PSD, BMP, PNG.**
  • SUBLIMATION: This is a full color process.  All of the above applies and high detail color images and  images with grayscale and  halftones/shading/shadowing are accepted for this process.**

Images & Logos:

  • High Resolution Bitmap:  Bitmap/Rastor file formats such as, JPG, TIFF, BMP, PNG are acceptable.**
  • Black & White:  Best for engraving.**
  • Microsoft Word & PDF Documents: Images embedded inside of Microsoft Word & PDF documents may be acceptable but only after assessed by our art department.**
  • Logos On File: Our company maintains a large database of local & national company logos/artwork files and you may not need to send your logo.  Please contact us to see if we have your logo on file.
  • Logo/Artwork Edits: Alterations are sometimes necessary for engraving. Failing to make these changes will result in a poor quality engraving that does not meet Coastal Engraving’s quality standards.  To know if your logo will need edits it will need to be assessed by our art department.
  • Artwork Fees: Any artwork sent in that is not on file will incur a one time minimum $20 art charge.  There may be an extra fee if the artwork/logo/clipart needs to be cleaned up or altered and any way.  We will provide you with an estimate if charges occur before we proceed with the edits. Artwork will be kept on file for two years.
  • Artwork Filed: Artwork will be on file for future use.**

Clipart:

  • Clipart On File: We carry standard clipart for most of your engraving needs.
  • Sending Clipart: You are welcome to send in any clipart you like as long as it meets the engraving standards. (See “The Best Logo/Clipart Specs” above)  An art charge may apply.
  • Clipart/Logo Links:  For online clipart and company logos.  Logos and clipart must be approved by our art department.

Submitting Artwork Files:

  • Email: You may send your file as an email attachment to info@coastalengraving.com. 5mb files or less.
  • FAX: Fax logos are not accepted.
  • Flash Drive/CD/DVD: You may send your text via Flash Drive/CD/DVD.
  • Print Out:  You are welcome to bring in typed or hand written text.  If text is hand written text please make sure it is legible.

Submitting Text/Layouts:

  • Email: You may send your text as an attachment or in the body of an email.  Sometimes this changes the text formatting such as font name, size, & any other necessary formatting. Please note any formatting that may be necessary.
  • FAXED: You may send your text via fax: 910-799-6957.   If text is hand written text please make sure it is legible.  If is is a printout please use a medium size font.  Small fonts are not legible.
  • Flash Drive/CD/DVD: You may send your text file via Flash Drive/CD/DVD.
  • Print Out:  You are welcome to bring in typed or hand written text.  If text is hand written text please make sure it is legible.
  • File Formats: PDFs, Word Document, Excel file, Adobe Illustrator CS4 or Lower, CorelDraw X3 or lower  and you may type the text in the body of an email. We do not except Publisher files.

Proofs:

  • We provide the first 3 free proofs for free. A per proof charge may apply after that.
  • Proofs are sent via email or printed out so you can come by the store to approve.
  • Once the proof(s) is approved we are not responsible for misspellings, mistakes in layout, lack of information or any other edits that need to be made.
  • Once the proof(s) is approved production usually starts immediately.

Trademarks:

  • All liability for submitted art and copy rest solely with the customer and not with Coastal Engraving. It is the responsibility of the customer to certify authorized use of any copyrights, patent, trademarks or any similar protections.
